Melanie Leavy, ACAS, MAAA has extensive work experience in the actuarial field. Melanie is currently serving as the Vice President of Actuarial Services at EmPRO Insurance, where they focus on pricing and reserving for medical professional liability insurance in New York State. Prior to this role, Melanie worked as the AVP of Pricing at PartnerRe, a global reinsurer, specializing in property and casualty insurance. Melanie started their career at The Robert Plan Corporation as an Actuarial Analyst, responsible for loss reserve analyses in the automobile insurance sector. Melanie also gained valuable experience as a Senior Director at FTI Consulting, where they collaborated with insurance professionals and provided strategic advice to insurers, reinsurers, and other related entities. Further, they worked as an Actuarial Consultant at Oliver Wyman, conducting reserve reviews for various self-insured risks and captive insurance companies. Throughout their career, Melanie has demonstrated a strong ability to tackle complex issues and provide valuable insights to support business decisions in the insurance industry.
Melanie Leavy received their Bachelor's degree in Engineering from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, where they studied from 1997 to 1999. Melanie then pursued a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics at Stony Brook University, completing their studies from 1999 to 2003. Melanie Leavy also holds certifications as an Associate (ACAS) from the Casualty Actuarial Society, which they obtained in 2014, and as a Member (MAAA) from the American Academy of Actuaries, also obtained in 2014.
