Senior Staff Scientist at Enevate

Shumao Cui has worked in various roles in the field of battery engineering since 2008. In 2008, they began working as a Research Assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where they synthesized various nanoparticles and nanorods of SnO2, Ag, and WOx. Shumao then became a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the same university, where they synthesized and characterized vertical graphene, activated reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheet, 2D MoS2 nanosheets, and nanoparticle-functionalized MoS2. In 2015, they began working as a Senior Battery Engineer at Johnson Controls, where they led projects on Absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery, designed and validated batteries, improved cell design to meet customer requirements and cost-saving, prepared DVP&R and DFMEA, and conducted battery testing, analysis, and reporting. In 2018, they moved to A123 Systems as an Advanced Cell Application Engineer, where they worked on NMC and LFP based lithium-ion battery cells for EV, PHEV, and HEV, and provided technical support on all cell products of the company. In 2020, they joined XALT Energy as a Battery Cell Research Engineer, where they were responsible for lithium ion battery design and development for power cell and energy cell, as well as production issue solving. In 2021, they began working as a Senior Staff Scientist at Enevate Corporation.

Shumao Cui received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2013. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's Degree in Materials Science from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2008.
