Barry Steyn

Barry Steyn has had a long and successful career in software engineering. Barry began their career in 2004 as a Software Developer at Allan Gray. In 2006, they became the Software Development Manager and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at RedButton Wi-Fi. In 2013, they took on the role of Senior Software Engineer at HootSuite and also became a TA for the Coursera Cryptography Course I. In 2014, they joined Microsoft as a Software Engineer Lead and then a Software Development Engineer II. In 2017, they moved to Move, Inc. as a Staff Software Engineer Lead/Architect and Senior Software Lead/Architect. In 2018, they joined LinkedIn as a Staff Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer and then a Software Engineering Manager. Finally, they also became the COO at Engineer Apart in 2018. Throughout their career, Barry has been responsible for various initiatives such as proposing, leading and executing on a security initiative, leading a team initiative to clean up legacy code, and designing and implementing a quarterly reporting system for large clients.

Barry Steyn attained their Masters in Computer Science, Honours in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Cape Town.
