Henk-Jan van den Ham has a diverse work experience spanning various roles in the field of bioinformatics and immunology. Henk-Jan currently works at ENPICOM BV as a Research Team Lead since December 2021, where they oversee research projects and provides leadership to the team. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior Scientist Bioinformatics & Immunology at the same company since February 2018.
Before joining ENPICOM BV, Henk-Jan worked at Erasmus Medical Center, dept of Virology/Viroscience. Henk-Jan served as a Bioinformatics Scientist working on virus-host interactions from May 2013 to February 2018. Henk-Jan'swork mainly focused on investigating host responses to different viruses, such as RSV, dengue, and herpes viruses, as well as helper T cell development and HIV immunotherapy response. Henk-Jan also contributed to the development of methods for the analysis of viral protein arrays for serology.
From May 2010 to May 2013, Henk-Jan worked as a Bioinformatics post-doc at Erasmus Medical Center. During this time, they gained expertise in omics and bioinformatics techniques for studying virus-host interactions and statistical analysis.
Prior to their work at Erasmus Medical Center, Henk-Jan was a PhD student at Utrecht University in Theoretical Biology & Bioinformatics from November 2005 to May 2010. Henk-Jan successfully completed their PhD and conducted research in a variety of areas, including ODE modeling, microarray data analysis, and Gillespie simulations. Henk-Jan also had teaching responsibilities for biology courses and theoretical ecology.
Henk-Jan also had earlier experiences, including an internship at UMC Utrecht in immunotherapy from May 2004 to July 2005, where they explored the role of IgA in immunity. Henk-Jan also worked as a tuition teacher at Malta studiecoaching from 2003 to 2005 and undertook an internship in parasitology at Utrecht University from October 2003 to May 2004.
Henk-Jan van den Ham's education history begins in 1994 at St Andrew's School, Turi, where they completed their IGCSE. From 1998 to 2000, they attended IVIO Wereldschool in Eldoret, Kenya, where they obtained their Dutch VWO through a Staatsexamen. Henk-Jan then pursued a BSc in General Science at Universiteit College Utrecht from 2000 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, they completed their MSc in Biomedical Sciences at Utrecht University. Finally, they obtained their PhD in Theoretical Immunology & Bioinformatics from Utrecht University from 2006 to 2010.
