Nicola Bonzanni has a diverse work experience. Nicola started their career in 2007 as a Ph.D. student at VU University Amsterdam, where they conducted research on the application of formal models to biological research. Nicola graduated with a dissertation titled "Towards executable biology". In 2009, they were a Research Intern at Microsoft Research Cambridge, where they worked on biological modelling in collaboration with the department of System Biology of the University of Cambridge. Nicola developed a formal model of starvation response in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In 2010, they returned to Microsoft Research Cambridge as a Research Intern and applied computer models to biological research. Nicola developed new algorithms for transcription factors analysis based on boolean modelling and graph theory. In 2012, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at NKI-AVL, where they conducted cancer research with a focus on bioinformatics and data analysis. In 2016, they Co-Founded SCI-BRAIN, a platform to discover new key opinion leaders.
