Sayo Chaoka is a professional engineer with a diverse range of work experience. Sayo began their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2008 and later worked as an Environmental Engineering Intern at Shell Oil Company in 2009.
Between 2006 and 2010, Chaoka founded and served as the Program Coordinator for the Mini Courses program at Illini Union Board. This program provided opportunities for students to develop life skills and explore hobbies while also allowing student instructors to gain teaching experience. Sayo successfully coordinated and supervised five semesters of Mini Courses, serving over 400 student participants.
Chaoka returned to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2010 as a Graduate Research Assistant, where they conducted research until 2012. During this time, they also held a leadership position as the Chapter President of the International Water Resources Association. In this role, they organized various events and initiatives to raise awareness of water issues and promote networking among student members, faculty, and alumni.
From 2012 to 2023, Chaoka worked at Wood Rodgers, Inc. as a Civil Engineer, Engineer in Water Resources, and Assistant Engineer in Water Resources. Sayo'sroles involved various responsibilities related to designing and managing civil engineering projects.
Most recently, Chaoka joined Environmental Science Associates in 2023 as a Design Engineer.
Sayo Chaoka, PE holds an M.S. in Environmental Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which was completed between 2010 and 2012. Prior to that, Sayo earned a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and Hydrology from the same university, graduating between 2006 and 2010. In 2008, Sayo attended the DTU - Technical University of Denmark, although no degree or field of study information was provided for this period. Sayo also obtained a Civil Engineer (P.E.) certification from the California BPELSG in December 2014. Additionally, Sayo obtained an Engineering Intern (EIT) certification in August 2010, although the institution where this was obtained is not specified.
