Steve Melton

Former Partner & Biologist at Equinox

Steve was a US Air Force veteran who held an Associate’s degree in Fish and Wildlife Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health. Steve was a partner in the firm, was with Equinox from 2000 - 2019, and served as the Ecology Services Group manager during much of this time. His roots ran deep here in the Southern Appalachians and can be traced back to the late 1700’s. In 2008 Steve donated a conservation easement on his 115 acre farm located in southern McDowell County. As a farmer and landowner, Steve’s local knowledge and sense of place proved valuable in community education, outreach, and establishing long-term cooperative partnerships. Steve's passion for conservation was exemplified through the projects that he managed - restoring ecosystems, improving water quality, protecting land, building partnerships. He constructed an unforgettable legacy through his work. His favorite species was White Oak (Quercus alba) because it is the favorite hard mast for many species of Wildlife.
