Paventhan Arumugam has extensive work experience in various roles related to research, development, and technology. Paventhan started their career as a Scientist/Engineer at the National Informatics Centre in 1992 and worked there until 1999. From 1999 to 2009, they served as a Team Coordinator at C-DAC. In 2006, they joined the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory as a Researcher, where they worked until 2008. Since 2009, Arumugam has been the Director (R&D) at ERNET India, a government organization under the Ministry of Electronics & IT, Govt. of India.

Paventhan Arumugam holds a PhD in Computational Engineering from the University of Southampton, earned between 2003 and 2007. Prior to that, they obtained an M.Tech in Computer Applications from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, from 1996 to 1998. Paventhan also holds an M.Sc in Computer Science from Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappalli, completed from 1989 to 1991.
