Cippe Michael D. Parker

Michael D. Parker, CIPPE has extensive work experience in the cybersecurity field. Michael D. currently holds the position of Director Governance Risk & Compliance at eSentire, where they are responsible for leading and managing governance, risk, and compliance initiatives. Prior to this role, they worked as a Senior Manager, Principal Security Strategy at eSentire, focusing on developing and implementing security strategies.

Before joining eSentire, Michael worked at BlackBerry for several years. During their time there, they served as a Principal CyberSecurity Analyst, responsible for developing and executing an internal audit program to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards. Michael D. also acted as a subject matter expert for privacy requirements, such as PIPEDA and GDPR, in alignment with the BlackBerry Data Protection Office.

Prior to their role as Principal CyberSecurity Analyst, Michael worked as a Senior Corporate Security Analyst at BlackBerry. In this position, they were a key consultant for security requirements and conducted various security assessments, including internal systems deployments, physical security, and third-party facilities. Michael D. also managed security engagements for merger, acquisition, divestiture, and outsourcing initiatives.

Before their time at BlackBerry, Michael worked at RIM (Research In Motion Ltd.), which later became BlackBerry. Michael D. held the role of Team Lead, Information Security and played a significant role in implementing the BSI 7799 (later ISO/IEC 27001:2005) accreditation in North America.

Michael D. Parker, CIPPE, obtained a Hon. B.A. degree in Anthropology from the University of Windsor, where they studied from 1992 to 1996. Following that, they pursued Information Technology at St. Clair College from 1997 to 1999, earning a degree in the field. In terms of additional certifications, they became a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) through The International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2018. This was followed by their completion of the OneTrust Vendor Risk Management Expert certification from OneTrust in December 2020 and the IAPP KnowledgeNet Chapter Chair certification from the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals in March 2020. In the past, they also held the GSEC Gold certification from SANS Institute, although it has since expired. Furthermore, they recently attained the OneTrust Incident Response Management Expert certification from OneTrust in January 2021. While they also held the CISA and CISM certifications from ISACA, they have expired. Additionally, they have not obtained the FAIR Risk Analyst and ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor certifications from the FAIR Institute and BSI, respectively.
