Des Salazar serves as a Fiction Editor for MASKS Literary Magazine since January 2022, collaboratively making submission decisions and engaging with writers on edits. Simultaneously, Des holds positions as a Paraprofessional and Substitute Teacher at Esperanza Community Services since October 2018, alongside previous roles that include a Nanny and Writing Instructor at CICS Avalon. Des has experience supporting students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and has contributed to student growth through tutoring and lesson modifications. An active member of the University of Michigan Women's Rugby Football Club from 2013 to 2016, Des also performed in the Department of American Culture's 80th Anniversary performance. Educational qualifications include a Master of Fine Arts in Fiction from Columbia College Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in Latino Studies from the University of Michigan, with ongoing studies toward a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature at Relay Graduate School of Education.
