Rita Torres

Scientific Officer Surveillance at ECDC

Rita Torres is a Scientific Officer for Surveillance at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) since March 2023. Prior to this, Rita worked as a Biostatistician at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge from January 2018 to February 2023, focusing on mortality monitoring, modeling, and analysis of infectious and chronic diseases. Rita's career also includes a role as a Statistician at the Statistics and Prospective Unit of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where responsibilities included developing quality assurance procedures and cooperating with the Portuguese Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education in program accreditation from September 2007 to December 2017. Earlier experiences include an internship at the National Health Institute, forecasting Portuguese mortality, and a mathematics tutoring position for high school students, as well as an IT consulting internship at Closer Consulting. Rita holds a Master of Science in Biostatistics and a Licentiate degree in Mathematics, both from the University of Lisbon.
