On December 28, 2021, the Evergreen Board of Directors approved John Boyd as the Evergreen Public Schools interim superintendent. Prior to joining EPS in February of 2022, Superintendent Boyd spent seven-plus years as the superintendent of the Quincy School District in central Washington. During his nearly 30-year career in education, he gained experience in teaching, instruction, multi-lingual education and administrative leadership.
Superintendent Boyd, who is fluent in Spanish and knows basic Mandarin, started his career as a paraeducator, moved into teaching, then served as a principal and instruction leader before moving into a superintendent role. He has worked in large school districts, including Seattle, Edmonds and Highline. In his time as superintendent in Quincy, a smaller rural district, he increased test scores and graduation rates, implemented culturally-appropriate supports for multi-lingual students and families, and oversaw a facilities bond and construction work. He also led a team that successfully connected students in a rural 450-square mile district during remote learning.
Superintendent Boyd earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with a Business Emphasis, from the University of Montana, where he was a four-year member of the men's basketball team; a Master of Education from Western Washington University; an Administrative Licensure from Heritage University; and a Superintendent Licensure from Washington State University.
