Phil Travis is a graduate student researcher at the Basic Plasma Science Facility, focusing on turbulence and transport in magnetic mirror geometries using the Large Plasma Device since July 2017. As the founder and first speaker of the Future of Humanity Club since December 2018, Phil promotes student engagement in ensuring a better future for humanity. Phil's academic background includes various roles at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, including student programmer for astrophysics, teaching assistant for introductory calculus-based electricity and magnetism, and multiple research positions in complex systems and condensed matter physics. Phil has also interned at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, where studies involved edge-localized modes in NSTX ELMy h-mode discharges. Phil holds a PhD in Plasma Physics from UCLA and a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
