Sam Brown

Sam Brown has a diverse work experience starting from 2001. They began as a Java developer at Accenture, where they quickly transitioned into team and project lead roles. They worked primarily with server-side Java code and Oracle databases. From 2004 to 2007, they worked as a Software Engineer at Northrop Grumman, responsible for creating a next-generation architecture for a legacy news gathering system. They developed a Java-based architecture with web services, Spring framework, and extensive unit testing, and discovered Jenkins and continuous integration during this time.

From 2007 to 2011, Sam worked at Booz Allen Hamilton as an Associate, where they worked on developing XML specs for web service standards and a next-generation platform for sensor coordination using automated planning engines.

From 2011 to 2013, Sam worked at Excella Consulting as a Senior Consultant and later as a Managing Consultant. They played various roles as a Java developer, team lead, and expert in continuous delivery migration. They helped a client transition to full continuous delivery and gained experience in this area.

From 2013 to 2014, Sam worked as a Senior Manager of Engineering Services: Operations at Blackboard, gaining experience on an operations team and working with tools like Chef, Sensu, and VMWare.

From 2014 to 2016, Sam worked as a Senior Product Architect at InboundCrowd, responsible for design, development, and operational management of web and iPad applications. They focused on highly tested code and deploying on-demand via cloud-based continuous delivery services.

From 2016 to 2020, Sam worked as a Director of Technology at Oteemo Inc.

Finally, since 2020, Sam has been working at Expel. They started as a Principal DevSecOps Engineer and moved up to Manager of Product Security, then Director of Information Security, and currently hold the role of Senior Director of Information Security.

Sam Brown graduated from Virginia Tech - Pamplin College of Business in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Information Systems.
