Layne Clemen

Director of Building Technologies at Extensible Energy

Layne Clemen has worked in a variety of roles since 2007. In 2008, they began working as an HVAC design engineer and commissioning agent for Systems West Engineers Inc. From 2010 to 2011, they were a Graduate Student/Postdoctoral Researcher and a Graduate Student at the Hyundai Center for Excellence in Vehicle Dynamics and Control - UC Davis. During this time, they also had a Graduate Student Intern role at Sandia National Laboratories. In 2007, they were a Teaching Assistant for Physical Chemistry at Oregon State University. In 2016, they became a Mechanical Engineer and Adviser for Buoy Labs, Inc. and a Chief Engineer for Alien Buffalo Designs, Inc. In 2017, they began working as a Senior Systems Engineer for Simplexity Product Development, Inc. and a Director of Building Technologies and Technical Adviser/Consulting Engineer for Elexity. Finally, in 2018, they began working as a Lecturer at San Diego State University, teaching mechatronics systems modeling and control.

Layne Clemen has a varied education and certification history. Layne obtained a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 2008. Layne then attended University of California, Davis, where they received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2013 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2015. In 2019, they earned an Embedded Systems Engineering Professional Certificate from UC San Diego Extended Studies. Layne also has several certifications, including Certified SolidWorks Professional - Advanced Sheet Metal (CSWPA-SM) from Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. (2017), Certified SolidWorks Professional - Advanced Surfacing (CSWPA-SU) from Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. (2016), Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) from Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. (2016), Certified SolidWorks Professional - Advanced Drawing Tools (CSWPA-DT) from Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. (2016), Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) from Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. (2016), and Engineer in Training from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.
