Stephen Strowes has a diverse work experience in the field of network analysis and research. Stephen is currently serving as a Principal Engineer at Fastly since August 2021. Before this, they worked at RIPE NCC as a Senior Research Scientist from December 2016 to July 2021, focusing on internet data analysis and open data access.
In 2019, Stephen took an academic sabbatical and worked as a Scientific Researcher at the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), where they learned GCP BigQuery for network measurement data analysis.
Prior to that, they were a Principal Network Engineer and IPv6 Program Manager at Yahoo from October 2013 to October 2016, leading the deployment of IPv6 across various platforms.
Stephen also has experience at Boundary as a Senior Engineer and Team Lead, where they worked on software agents for network flow monitoring, leading the development of a clean-room metering platform.
Additionally, they had research roles at Nokia in 2008 and the University of Glasgow from 2005 to 2007, focusing on self-managed computing and management patterns.
Stephen Strowes has a strong educational background in Computing Science. Stephen obtained their Ph.D. degree from the University of Glasgow, where they studied from 2007 to 2012. Prior to their Ph.D., they completed their M.Sci. degree in Computing Science at the same university, graduating in 2005.
