Steven Carlberg has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several industries. Steven started their career in the United States Navy, where they served as a Reactor Operator and Leading Petty Officer for nine years. After leaving the Navy, Carlberg worked as a Buyer and Materials Planner at Boston Scientific, where they quickly advanced to a senior buyer position.
In 1998, they joined the Client/Server Consulting Group as a Network Engineer, where they led a team of six and designed and implemented LAN/WAN systems for small businesses. Steven then moved on to Communications Technology Group in 1999, where they served as a Senior Network Consultant. Here, Carlberg was responsible for network design, project planning and management, and solution implementation for various clients.
In 2001, Carlberg established their own consulting business, providing network and Microsoft consulting services to various clients. During this time, they designed the network for two new middle schools for District 97, which had to handle IP, IPX, and Appletalk protocols.
Carlberg joined University HealthSystem Consortium in 2002 as a Senior Network Administrator, where they managed infrastructure projects and contributed to the overall direction of technology. Steven was also the lead network architect and head of the emergency response team, and played a significant role in implementing server virtualization.
In 2007, Carlberg was promoted to Manager of Infrastructure at University HealthSystem Consortium, where they directed the operation of a large-scale network and oversaw a team of support personnel. Steven was responsible for daily support of servers, storage, network equipment, messaging, backups, and desktop support, and contributed expertise in decision making for future technology use.
After leaving University HealthSystem Consortium, Carlberg worked at PRA Group as AVP, Infrastructure, Security, Help Desk. Steven reported directly to the Global CIO and provided strategic direction on technology and its use to support business objectives. Steven was accountable for leadership and oversight of centralized IT functions, including infrastructure, security, help desk, project management and delivery, IT operations, expense control, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
Currently, Carlberg is Vice President of Infrastructure at Feeding America, a role they assumed in October 2021. Steven previously served as the Managing Director of Infrastructure, Security, and Service Desk. In this role, they reported directly to the CIO and provided leadership in selecting cloud vendors and migrating workloads to the cloud. Steven was also a contributing member of the Enterprise Risk Management board.
