Patrick Burns

Lead Chemist at Ferric Contrast

Patrick Burns is the lead chemist at Ferric Contrast. Patrick has a background in researching and developing new ligands and transition metal complexes. Their research focuses on paramagnetic properties and their potential application as diagnostic tools.

Burns began their career as a graduate student researcher at the University at Buffalo in 2012. There, they worked on synthesizing, purifying, and analyzing new ligands and complexes. Patrick also characterized them through electrospray ionization mass spec (ESI-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In addition to their research duties, they also served as the laboratory safety liaison, responsible for maintaining good laboratory practice (GLP) and instructing new lab members on safety protocol.

Patrick left the University at Buffalo in 2018 to join Ferric Contrast as the lead chemist. In their current role, they continue to research and develop new paramagnetic complexes with the goal of applying them as diagnostic tools. Patrick has also helped train seven incoming graduate students and three undergraduate students on laboratory practice and protocol.

Patrick Burns has a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University at Buffalo and a B.A. in Chemistry with a Pre-Med Concentration from the College of the Holy Cross.

Patrick Burns reports to Janet Morrow, Chief Science Officer & Co-Founder.
