Mark Platt is currently the Co-Founder, Director, and Chief Technology Officer at Figura Analytics Limited. In this role, they have simplified the logistics of monitoring microbiological contamination in soft drink manufacturing through real-time screening and integration into production lines. Prior to their current position, Mark worked at Loughborough University, starting as a Lecturer in April 2012 and advancing to Senior Lecturer until November 2021. Mark then became a Reader in Nanotechnology until November 2022. Mark was also a BSI Committee Member at Liquid Displacement Methods from March 2021 to July 2022. Before their time at Loughborough University, Mark was a Research Fellow at University College Dublin from September 2009 to February 2012, where they developed a technique for capturing biomarkers in biological samples. Mark conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Manchester, University of Cambridge, and Penn State University, where they focused on various topics such as aptameric directed evolution, DNA synthesis, and nanotechnology. Mark holds a PhD from the University of Manchester, where their research studied controlled deposition at the liquid/liquid interface. Mark completed their undergraduate studies in Chemistry with Analytical Chemistry at the University of Salford.

Mark Platt earned a PhD in Chemistry from The University of Manchester, where they studied from 2001 to 2004. Prior to that, they completed a MChem degree in Chemistry with analytical chemistry at The University of Salford, from 1997 to 2001. In September 2014, they obtained a certification as a faculty member of Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care East Midlands from the National Institute for Health Research.
