Mike Stevens has extensive work experience in the field of robotics engineering. Mike currently holds the position of Senior Robotics Engineer at Figure, a role they started in 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Nimble Robotics as a Senior Mechanical Engineer from 2021 to 2022.
From 2017 to 2021, Mike served as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Abundant Robotics. Notably, they were involved in designing and prototyping a set of robotic hands for the DARPA Robotics Challenge, showcasing features such as strong grip force, modular finger assemblies, and precise tendon force control. Mike also worked on developing an actuator for a running exoskeleton suit at SRI International from 2014 to 2017.
In 2013, Mike worked as a Robotic Engineer Consultant at Made in Space, Inc., where they contributed to the development of 3D printing systems and submitted proposals for NASA projects. Prior to that, they gained experience as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science from 2011 to 2013.
Mike started their career as a Manufacturing Engineer at Canon Virginia, Inc. in 2011 and also worked as a Contracted Researcher at the Center for Intelligent Material Systems and Structures (CIMSS) Lab from 2010 to 2011. Mike gained further experience as an Engineering Intern at NASA Langley Research Center in 2010 and as a Research Engineering at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2009.
Mike Stevens earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech, where they attended from 2007 to 2011. Following this, they pursued a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Robotics at the same institution, from 2011 to 2013.
