Michael Fortune

Michael Fortune has a diverse work experience in the financial planning and analysis field. Michael started their career as a Financial Analyst at Great Western Railway (GWR) in 2013 and gradually moved up the ranks. Michael served as a Senior Financial Analyst, responsible for budget and forecast planning, and later became a Senior Finance Manager, leading and managing the control team with financial planning.

In 2016, Michael was seconded to the Franchise Change (bid) Team at GWR, where they worked as a Senior Financial Analyst. Michael was responsible for engineering financial cost modeling and provided financial analysis and investment appraisal support to the Franchise Change Finance lead and Commercial Director.

Michael joined FirstGroup plc in 2018 as the Group Financial Projects Manager. Michael then progressed to the role of Head of Financial Planning & Analysis at FirstRail in 2020, where they were accountable for the production of quarterly forecasts and annual budgets. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Financial Planning at FirstRail since April 2021.

Michael Fortune completed their Bachelor's Degree in Accounting at Cardiff Metropolitan University from 2006 to 2009. In 2014, they pursued the ACCA Professional Qualification in Accountancy at ACCA.
