James Roche has a diverse work experience in various industries and roles related to environment, health, and safety. James is currently working as the Head of Environment, Health, and Safety at Fletcher Building since April 2023. Previously, they served as the Head of Safety and Wellbeing at RACQ from 2018 to 2023. James also worked as the Director of Organisational Safety and Wellbeing at the Department of Education and Training (Queensland) from 2015 to 2017. Before that, they worked as a Safety and Risk Consultant at Raptor SSC, where they undertook projects for the Australian Defence Force and Queensland University of Technology. James has also held positions as the Group Head of Safety at APN News & Media, Manager Health, Safety & Environment at Virgin Australia, Group Manager Safety & Risk at Queensland Rail - Infrastructure Projects, and Senior HSE Coordinator at Monadelphous. James has extensive experience in the Australian Army, where they held positions such as Manager OHS Operations and Command Safety Manager in Training Command - Army.

James Roche obtained a Graduate Diploma in Safety Science from UNSW in 2005. Prior to that, they attended the Royal Military College, Duntroon from 1994 to 1995. James completed their secondary education at Nudgee College from 1986 to 1991.
