Justin Wedes has held a variety of roles in the fields of education, social media, marketing, and non-profit work. In 2008, they began working as an educator and high school teacher in physics and technology at an alternative school for at-risk and truant youth in Brooklyn, NY. In 2009, they became the Social Media Director for US Uncut. In 2011, they helped spark the Occupy Wall Street protest movement and served as an unofficial spokesperson for the movement, appearing on The Colbert Report and quoted in the NY Times, CBS News and more. Justin also coordinated a social media team of over 30 members running the movement's major Twitter feed. In 2012, Justin founded Occupy Labs, a company that creates spaces for community action planning and distributed social media communication and coordination. From 2014-2015, they were the Lead Organizer and media director of the Detroit Water Brigade, a volunteer-led alliance of compassionate citizens of Detroit and their international allies working to bring emergency relief to families facing water shut offs. In 2015, they became the CEO of The Liberati Group, a digital marketing and PR company specializing in web/graphic design, social media management and crowdfunding for startups, non-profits and advocacy groups. Justin also served as the President of Detroit Workers and Builders, a non-profit organization committed to creating opportunities for homeless and low-income Detroiters to gain employment and be a part of rebuilding their city. In 2017, they became the Director of Marketing for the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, responsible for developing consistent and compelling branding and messaging for the JCC as a whole as well for each business unit, across all communication channels. Finally, in 2019, Justin Wedes became the Chief Executive Officer of Flow Video.
Justin Wedes received their Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Michigan in 2008. Following this, they obtained their Master of Education in Science Teacher Education/General Science Teacher Education from Pace University in 2010.
