Kimon Voutsis PhD CEng AFRIN

Principal Engineer at FocalPoint

Kimon Voutsis, PhD CEng AFRIN, has extensive work experience in the field of positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) applications. Kimon began their career as a Reserve Officer at the Hellenic Military Geographical Service in 2005. In 2008, they worked as a Software Developer and Technical Analyst at Buchanan Computing Ltd.

In 2011, Voutsis joined UCL, where they completed their Ph.D. in Robust PNT Applications. During their time at UCL, they conducted research on human motion modeling for simulation testing of GNSS equipment. Kimon also provided consultancy services and worked on error modeling for accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetic compass technologies.

Following their Ph.D., Voutsis joined Spirent Communications in 2015. Kimon held various roles at the company, starting as a Solutions Architect for Robust PNT Applications. In this position, they provided consultancy services and technical solutions to military, governmental, and commercial customers worldwide. Kimon also designed, implemented, and verified GNSS testing and evaluation solutions for various industries.

In 2019, Voutsis transitioned to the role of Product Manager for High-end PNT Test Solutions at Spirent Communications and later became a Senior Product Manager. Kimon was responsible for the development and management of high-end positioning, navigation, and timing test solutions.

Currently, Voutsis works as a Field Applications Engineer at FocalPoint, where they apply their expertise in PNT applications to provide technical support and solutions to customers.

Kimon Voutsis, PhD CEng AFRIN, earned a Bachelor's Degree (Hons) in Geography from Harokopio University of Athens from 2000 to 2004. Kimon then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Geographic Information Science at UCL from 2007 to 2008. In addition to their academic qualifications, they have obtained several certifications, including being a Chartered Engineer (RIN) from the Engineering Council in November 2020 and an Associate Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation (AFRIN) from the Royal Institute of Navigation in December 2019. Furthermore, they have certifications in Python Programming 1 & 2 from StayAhead Training Ltd in April 2018 and The APM Project Management Qualification from the Association for Project Management in September 2014.
