Florian Laws

Florian Laws has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Florian is currently working at Forecast as a Staff Data Scientist since December 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Director of Data Science at Forecast from March 2020 to December 2021.

Before joining Forecast, Florian worked at Tradeshift, an SaaS invoicing platform. Florian held multiple positions, including Engineering Manager (Machine Learning) from November 2019 to March 2020, Staff Machine Learning Engineer and Team Lead from September 2018 to November 2019, and Staff Machine Learning Engineer from September 2016 to September 2018. During their time at Tradeshift, Florian contributed to information extraction from OCRed documents and other machine learning-related tasks.

Florian also has experience working at other companies. Florian worked as a Software Engineer at Issuu from March 2013 to February 2014. Before that, they served as a Researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Stuttgart from 2008 to 2013. Florian started their career at Google, where they worked as an Intern Software Engineering from May 2011 to September 2011. Florian was part of the natural language processing research team and contributed to developing a method for automatic text summarization.

Prior to their time at Google, Florian worked at WiredMinds AG as a Software Developer from February 2007 to February 2008. Florian was responsible for the development and maintenance of a web-based web analytics software and implemented scalability improvements and an internationalization framework.

Florian's earliest work experience was at dmc digital media center GmbH, where they served as a Systems Administrator (part-time) from 1997 to January 2007. Florian'sresponsibilities included maintaining server clusters, implementing system security measures, and designing the company's email infrastructure. Florian also gained experience as an Information Technology Intern at Agilent Technologies from July 2000 to September 2000.

Florian Laws obtained their Diplom in Informatik (Computer Science) from the University of Stuttgart, where they studied from 2001 to 2006. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science at the University of Stuttgart from 2008 to 2013.
