Selene Clay has extensive work experience in the field of genetics and genomics. Selene currently holds the position of Scientist, Statistical Genomics at Foresite Labs since 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a PhD Candidate in Human Genetics at the University of Chicago from 2017 to 2023, where they conducted research projects focused on the genetics of complex human traits, particularly asthma. Selene'swork involved performing GWAS and fine mapping of asthma risk loci, analyzing RNAseq data, and running variant-set tests for rare variant analyses. In addition to their scientific work, Selene also showed interest in science communication, teaching, and promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM. Before their doctoral studies, Selene worked as a Junior Specialist at UCSF from 2015 to 2017. Selene also gained research experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at UC Berkeley from 2011 to 2015, and as a Biological Research Assistant at Scanadu from 2013 to 2014.
Selene Clay earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Molecular & Cell Biology with a focus on Genetics, Genomics & Development from the University of California, Berkeley. Selene attended this institution from 2011 to 2015. Afterwards, Selene pursued further education at the University of Chicago where they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Human Genetics. Selene'sdoctoral studies took place from 2017 to 2023.
