Miriikka Laakkonen has more than 15 years of experience in communications and public affairs roles. Miriikka is currently the Communications Lead at Fortum, where they are responsible for crisis communications development and safety, security, and compliance communications on a global level. Prior to this role, they held various positions at Fortum, including Communications Manager for safety, security, and compliance communications, and Communications Partner for R&D and Public Affairs projects. Miriikka also worked as a Political Advisor to MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri at the European Parliament. Miriikka has a background in energy policy and conceptual history, having completed their doctoral studies on Finnish Energy Policy debates at the University of Jyväskylä. Miriikka has also served as a member of the Board of Directors at Helsingin Vesi and held roles at Vattenfall and the Parliament of Finland.
Miriikka Laakkonen completed their Master's degree in Political Science at the University of Jyväskylä from 1993 to 2001. Miriikka also attended the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Schoren Dornbirn in Austria from 1990 to 1991. Miriikka pursued a Doctoral degree in political science at the University of Jyväskylä starting in 2007. In addition, they pursued a BScBA degree in International Business at Helsingin kauppakorkeakoulu from 2007 onwards. Miriikka's high school education was completed at Itäkeskuksen lukio, though specific years are unknown.
