Serena Bologna, PhD has extensive work experience in the field of scientific research. Serena is currently working at FoRx Therapeutics as a Principal Scientist, a position they have held since April 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Scientist at FoRx Therapeutics from June 2022 to April 2023. Before joining FoRx Therapeutics, Serena worked at HEMEX starting in March 2021 and ending in May 2022, where they had a role in management. From September 2018 to March 2021, Serena served as a Senior Scientist at Adrestia Therapeutics.
Serena's work experience also includes time at the University of Cambridge as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Gurdon Institute. Here, they conducted research on DNA damage response, genome and cellular integrity maintenance, tumorigenesis, proteins post-translational modifications. Serena focused on identifying new ubiquitinating (E2) and deubiquitinating (DUB) enzymes involved in DNA damage repair. Serena worked under the supervision of Prof. Steve Jackson's laboratory during this time from April 2015 to September 2018.
Additionally, Serena worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Zurich in 2015. Serena'sresearch at the time centered around DNA damage response to DNA interstrand crosslinks, the Fanconi Anemia (FA) pathway, and telomere maintenance in tumor cells. Serena'swork was conducted in Prof. Josef Jiricny's laboratory from January 2015 to March 2015.
Prior to their postdoctoral positions, Serena held research fellowships at Ospedale San Raffaele from January 2009 to December 2009, and at IFOM, the FIRC Institute for Molecular Oncology, from January 2008 to December 2008. At IFOM, their project focused on the biochemical and biological characterization of Xtp1 protein during the cell cycle in HeLa cells, working under the supervision of Dr. Pier Paolo Di Fiore in the group led by Prof. Pier Paolo Di Fiore.
Serena Bologna, PhD completed their Bachelor's degree in industrial biotechnology from Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca between 2001 and 2005. Serena then pursued their Master's degree in Oncology and Cancer Biology from the same institution from 2005 to 2008. Serena further enhanced their education by obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cancer Biology - DNA damage repair from the University of Zurich, which they completed between 2010 and 2014.
