Mark Montgomery

Mark Montgomery has a diverse work experience in the defense and security field. Mark has served as the Senior Director and Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies since October 2020. Prior to that, they were the Executive Director of the U.S. Cyberspace Solarium Commission from March 2019 to December 2021. Mark also worked as the Policy Director for the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services from September 2017 to January 2019. Before their civilian roles, Mark had a long and distinguished career in the US Navy, where they reached the rank of Rear Admiral (RADM), Retired. Mark held various leadership positions in different commands, including Director of Operations (J3) at U.S. Pacific Command and Commander, CTF 70/Carrier Strike Group 5 at U.S. Pacific Fleet. Mark also served as Deputy Director for Plans, Policy, and Strategy (DJ5) at U.S. European Command and held roles at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV), U.S. Seventh Fleet, and USS NIMITZ.

Mark Montgomery has a strong education history with a focus on history and international relations. Mark first pursued a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1985. Following this, in the same year, they attended the University of Oxford where they obtained a Master's degree in Modern History. In 1984, they completed a Master of Arts (MA) in International Relations and Affairs at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to their Master's degree at Oxford, they briefly attended the Nuclear Power School - Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in 1985, although no specific degree or field of study information is provided for this institution.
