Mark Lorenzen attended Point Loma Nazarene University from 1984 to 1988, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Visual Art. In 1986, they also briefly attended California State University, Long Beach, focusing on Fine/Studio Arts, General, although they did not obtain a degree from this institution. In 2008, Mark obtained a certification in CSM (Certified ScrumMaster) from Scrum Alliance.
