River Liu

Gameplay Lead at Free Range Games

River Liu has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Currently, River is working as a Senior Gameplay/AI Engineer at Free Range Games, where they lead the gameplay team for an unannounced AAA project. They have also contributed to the development of The Callisto Protocol as an AI Engineer, focusing on navigation and enemy behaviors.

Prior to their current role, River worked at Uber as an Autonomous Vehicle Simulation Engineer from 2018 to 2020. Before that, they gained experience as an Engineering Intern at Schell Games in 2017.

River also has a background in education and research. They served as a Programming TA at Carnegie Mellon University, assisting students with game programming and hosting programming workshops. Additionally, River worked as a Research Assistant at City University of Hong Kong in 2011.

Earlier in their career, River gained experience as a Server Developer at RFA, a Freelance Illustrator, and a Full-stack Web Developer at Trumptech (Hong Kong) Limited.

River Liu completed a Master's degree in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Mellon University between 2016 and 2018. Prior to that, River Liu obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) in History from The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2013 to 2015. River Liu also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Electronic Information Engineering from City University of Hong Kong, which was awarded between 2007 and 2011. Additionally, River Liu has obtained several certifications from Coursera, including Machine Learning, Motion Planning for Self-Driving Cars, Self-Driving Cars Specialization, Visual Perception for Self-Driving Cars, Introduction to Self-Driving Cars, and State Estimation and Localization for Self-Driving Cars. The certifications were earned between April 2019 and November 2019.
