Ofer Shapira

Director, Computational Biology at Freenome

Ofer Shapira has a diverse work experience in the field of computational biology and data science. Ofer is currently working at Freenome as the Director of Computational Biology. Prior to this role, they held the position of Senior Manager of Computational Biology at Freenome.

Before joining Freenome, Ofer worked at Cedilla Therapeutics as the Associate Director of Computational Biology & Machine Learning, and as a Senior Scientist of Computational Biology & Machine Learning.

Ofer's earlier experiences include working at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard as a Computational Biologist & Data Scientist, where they developed computational models to interpret cancer genomes using statistical and machine learning approaches. Ofer also founded Nano-Spect, Inc., where they developed drug compound screening technology. Additionally, Ofer worked at QD-Vision as the Head of the quantum-dot spectroscopy group, leading a team in the development of spectroscopic and analytical tools for characterizing semiconductor quantum-dot materials.

Ofer's early career involved research in nanophotonics and molecular sensing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they served as a Research Scientist and supervised a team of graduate and undergraduate students.

Ofer Shapira holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2007) and a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
