Ron Milam has a diverse work experience in the non-profit sector. Ron started their career in 1997 as a Communications Manager at the Surface Transportation Policy Project. From 1997 to 1999, they also served as a Program Supervisor at Bike LA Safety Training. In 1998, they became the Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, a position they held until 2003. Subsequently, they joined Enterprise Community Partners as a Senior Development Specialist, where they helped raise funds for affordable housing and community development. In 2005, they started their own consultancy called Ron Milam Consulting, where they provided organization and network development services to various clients on the Pacific Coast. In 2016, they worked as a Consultant for SoCal Grantmakers, specifically focusing on organizing and facilitating environmental funder convenings. Ron Milam then joined The Funders Network in 2014, first as the Coordinator of the Los Angeles Funders Collaborative, supporting collaboration among funders in Los Angeles, and later as the Director of Smart Growth California, working towards building healthy, equitable, and sustainable communities throughout California.
Ron Milam earned a Master's Degree in Organization Development from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, which they attended from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Planning, Public Policy and Management from the University of Oregon, where they studied from 1994 to 1997. In addition to their formal education, Ron Milam also holds a certification as a Certified Professional Facilitator, which they obtained from the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) in May 2012.
