Edwin George Poovathingal

Edwin George Poovathingal is an experienced gemologist with a strong background in research, grading, and purchasing gemstones. Currently serving as a Gemologist in Research and Development at Fura Gems Inc. since August 2021, Edwin conducts studies on gemstones and enhancement methods while also grading and assorting rough Ruby, Sapphire, and Emeralds. Previously, as Head of Purchase at Halo Jewelry from January 2019 to June 2020, Edwin traveled across Sri Lanka to acquire sapphires, which were subsequently exported to China. Additionally, experience includes roles as a Gemologist and Guest Lecturer at St. Aloysius College, and positions at various gem-related firms. Edwin holds a Master of Science in Gemology from the Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya, and a Bachelor of Vocational Degree in Gemology from St. Aloysius College.
