Adriaan Wierenga

Adriaan Wierenga is a seasoned professional in the field of public order law and emergency management, currently serving as a guest lecturer and researcher in emergency law at Universiteit Leiden since June 2024. Wierenga has extensive experience as a senior researcher in public order law, emergency response, and crisis management at Centrum voor Openbare Orde en Veiligheid - Rijksuniversiteit Groningen since September 2009, and has held various educational roles including guest lecturer positions at Politieacademie and authoring texts for Wolters Kluwer. Noteworthy contributions include research for the Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid, focusing on significant investigations such as the Vliegvuur Scheveningen and the response to the COVID-19 crisis. Wierenga also played a role in educating future legal professionals through a Massive Open Online Course on Dutch law via FutureLearn and has been actively involved with the University of Groningen both as a lecturer and as a member of the alumni committee.
