Ken Caldeira is a distinguished scientist with extensive experience in the environmental science of climate, carbon, and energy. Currently a Senior Scientist at Gates Ventures as of January 2024, Ken has held various prominent roles including Staff Scientist (Emeritus) at the Carnegie Institution for Science since February 2020, and Senior Scientist at Breakthrough Energy from January 2021 to December 2023. Previous positions include Senior Advisor in Climate Science at Gates Ventures and Staff Scientist at Carnegie Institution / Stanford. Earlier in their career, Ken contributed as a Physicist / Environmental Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Penn State University. Ken holds a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from New York University, where also a Master's degree in the same field was earned, along with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Rutgers University.
