Marlene Flowers has extensive work experience in the field of developmental disabilities and healthcare services. Marlene began their career at Long County Board of Education, serving as an elected board member from 1988 to 1992. Marlene then joined the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Department of Family and Children Services, where they worked as a social services case manager for child protective services from 1994 to 2000. Marlene received recognition as Case Manager of the Year by the Georgia Council on Child Abuse during their time there.
In 2000, Marlene joined Gateway CSB as the Director of the Developmental Disabilities Division. Marlene managed various programs, including day programs, supported living, training centers, and residential services for the largest provider of behavioral health services in southeast Georgia. Marlene also served as a Program Manager and worked collaboratively with other departments and team members to deliver best practice solutions.
Marlene's career at Gateway continued in different roles and with increasing responsibilities. Marlene became the Associate Director of Developmental Disabilities Services at Gateway Community Service Board in 2014. In this position, they led the residential services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, overseeing multiple group homes and apartment complexes. Marlene successfully reduced overtime and staff costs, improved billing cycles, and achieved positive margins for the first time in several years.
Marlene's experience in healthcare includes working at both GE Healthcare and GE Healthcare IT/Caradigm. Marlene served as a Project Manager for the Centricity Perinatal software implementation in hospitals across the United States from 2005 to 2011. Marlene then transitioned to the role of HIE Project Leader at GE Healthcare IT/Caradigm, managing HIE projects for eHealth implementations with budgets ranging from one to six million dollars. Their responsibilities included project planning, resource coordination, communication planning, system implementation, and post Go-Live activities.

Marlene Flowers obtained a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management and Services from Saint Leo University in the period from 1990 to 1992.
