Shane McDonagh

Shane McDonagh is an experienced energy analyst and senior engineer with a strong focus on renewable energy technologies and emissions reduction strategies. Currently, Shane serves as an Energy Analyst at the International Energy Agency since May 2022 and as a Senior Engineer at Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions. Previous roles include Postdoctoral Researcher at MaREI, where Shane conducted extensive research on climate neutrality pathways for Ireland, and at University College Cork, specializing in Power-to-Gas systems during PhD studies in Renewable Energy Engineering. Shane has also contributed to education through the development of interactive engineering programs for school children and held leadership positions in international energy summits. With a solid educational background in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems Engineering, Shane possesses a comprehensive skill set in energy policy, decarbonisation pathways, and stakeholder engagement.
