Neil Barrett

Neil Barrett has a diverse work experience in the fields of research and development, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and technology leadership.

From 2012 to 2018, Neil worked at Nuance Communications, where they held roles such as Manager of Research Science and Senior Natural Language Processing Research Engineer. During their time there, Neil managed a team of researchers, developed deep learning tooling, and adopted deep learning and neural networks for various tasks. Neil also successfully implemented a neural network model in a production environment and played a key role in the development of an automated clinical coding system.

In 2018, Neil joined WinningMinds.ai as the Chief Technology and Information Officer. Their responsibilities included opening the Montreal office and overseeing the development of the Conversation AI Analysis platform.

Neil then moved on to C2RO in 2019, serving as a Senior Computer Vision Specialist. Neil collaborated with a team to provide privacy-aware video analytics solutions for physical spaces using edge-cloud AI technology.

Currently, Neil is working at GENAIZ as the Vice President of Research and Development since 2022. Prior to this role, they held positions as the Director of Applied Artificial Intelligence and Development at GENAIZ, where they played a crucial role in restructuring and reorganizing the R&D department. In their current position, Neil leads a team in applying various AI technologies to accelerate innovation in the life sciences industry.

Neil Barrett has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Medical Language Processing from the University of Victoria.
