Fermentation Laboratory Technician at Genecis

Alena Pratasouskaya has held a variety of roles since 2019. In 2019, they were a Graduate Research Assistant at Wilfrid Laurier University. In 2020, they were a Chemical Technologist at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. and a Science Teacher at SMS (Sunshine Montessori School). Currently, they are a Fermentation Laboratory Technician at Genecis Bioindustries Inc., where their duties include preparation of bacterial growth media, buffers and reagents, design and conducting bench-scale fermentations, downstream processing of biomass, sample analysis, plasmid DNA construction, equipment cleaning, maintenance and troubleshooting, stocking and cataloguing cryogenically stored microbial strains, inventory management, SOP and protocol development, training new laboratory personnel, reorganizing laboratory space, and keeping detailed records of experimental work.

Alena Pratasouskaya attended Wilfrid Laurier University from 2013 to 2019, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biochemistry and Biotechnology in 2017 and a Master's degree in Biochemistry in 2019.
