Accessibility Subcommittee, Early Career Leadership Program at Genetics Society of America - GSA

Alyssa P. is a dedicated researcher currently serving as an HHMI Gilliam Fellow at Howard Hughes Medical Institute and as a member of the Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Council at the National Academy of Sciences. Since August 2020, Alyssa has been a PhD graduate student, teaching assistant, and BCM Life Ambassador at Baylor College of Medicine, advocating for student wellness and inclusivity as part of the Inclusion and Excellence Council. Alyssa also contributes to the Genetics Society of America and oversees mentorship initiatives within Disabled In Higher Ed and DisabledInSTEM, the latter of which Alyssa founded. Alyssa has engaged in numerous speaking engagements and panels, sharing expertise on diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Cancer and Cell Biology from Baylor College of Medicine and a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Sarah Lawrence College.
