K.J. Mercer has worked in various roles since 2011. In 2011, they worked as a Student Labourer at Wabush Mines, where they performed housekeeping in the Electrical, Machinist, and Welding shops, as well as functioning as a Confined Space Attendant. In 2012, they worked as a Laser Engraver at The Copy Shop Ltd., where they designed and fabricated various laser products, using Versa Laser software to engrave both flat surfaces and round with a rotary attachment, as well as utilizing Excel and Corel Draw for efficient workflow. In 2013, they completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Game Level Design at Sheridan College, taking courses such as Programming & Scripting, Game Level Design, Game Mechanics, and Game K.J.'story & Theory, and working with students taking an Advanced Programming Certificate to complete a full project, Sprout. In 2014, they worked as a Jr. Stereo Compositor at Legend3D. In 2015, they worked as a Jr. Game Designer at Uken Games, working on the mobile game Titans, and performing research on current mobile games, designing complete features, and adjusting balance of the game while taking into account community needs. In 2016, they worked as a Game Designer at Glu Mobile. In 2018, they worked as a Game Designer at Uken Games. In 2020, they worked as a Senior Game Designer at dibs studio. Currently, they are working as a Lead Game Designer at Ready Makers, Inc., where they are optimizing product development and planning, and leading cross-team collaboration during development.
K.J. Mercer attended Sheridan College from 2013 to 2014, where they obtained a Post Grad in Game Level Design. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) from Memorial University from 2008 to 2012, where their field of study was Visual Arts.
