Francois Hugo has a diverse work experience in the engineering and project management field. Francois started their career as an Engineer at the Agricultural Research Council in 1997. Francois then worked as a Site Engineer and Civil Works Manager for Hochtief from 1998 to 2002. Afterwards, they served as a Consulting Engineer and Project Manager at LA Consulting Engineers.
In 2003, Hugo joined Uniterm Design as a Project Engineer until 2008, when they moved to Hochtief (HCJV) as a Site/Project Engineer for a short period. In the same year, they began working at GIBB as a Resident Engineer/Construction Supervisor and later progressed to the role of Senior Project Manager. Hugo was assigned to the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) Phase II - Polihali Dam, where they played a pivotal role in the design and construction supervision of the dam.
Currently, Hugo holds the position of Principal Project Manager and GIBB Lesotho Manager. Francois is responsible for managing the Polihali Dam project, overseeing its design and construction supervision. Throughout their career, they have gained expertise in dams, hydropower, and underground works, particularly in waterways, shafts, tunnels, and other related structures.
Francois Hugo's education history is as follows:
- From 2016 to 2017, they attended the University of Pretoria and earned a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Technology Management.
- In 1996 and 1997, they studied at the University of Pretoria and obtained an Honours of Bachelor of Engineering (BEngHons) degree in Technology Management.
- From 1992 to 1996, they attended the University of Pretoria and completed a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Engineering.
- Between 2011 and 2014, they pursued an Honours Bachelor of Science (Hons. B.Sc.) degree in Operations Research at the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika.
- From 2001 to 2007, they studied Software Engineering and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika.
Additionally, they hold various certifications, including the Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP®) from the Project Management Institute, which they obtained in September 2021, and the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification, also from the Project Management Institute, which they obtained in March 2018. Francois is also a Professional Engineer (PrEng) certified by the Engineering Council of South Africa and a Senior Member of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering.
