Ryan Thomann

Ryan Thomann has a diverse work experience in the publishing industry. Ryan is currently working as a Senior Art Director at Gibbs Smith, Publisher since 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Lonely Planet as an Art Director from 2018 to 2020, where they successfully implemented a revised art approach that led to significant increases in sales. From 2016 to 2018, Ryan served as an Associate Art Director at Sterling Publishing, where they managed a large number of design projects, negotiated contracts, and supervised design staff. Before that, they co-founded and served as the Creative Director and Partner of a lifestyle boutique called Life:Curated from 2010 to 2017. Ryan also has experience working at Penguin Random House, starting as an Art Assistant in 2006 and progressing to various roles such as Junior Designer, Designer, and Senior Designer over the years. At Penguin Random House, they worked on designing for multiple imprints and focused on series branding, prepress preparation, and print-to-eBook workflow.

Ryan Thomann attended the Savannah College of Art and Design from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Illustration and Graphic Design.
