Gweneth D. O’Shaughnessy is the vice president of hospital services at Gift of Life. She and her team are responsible for optimizing donation and transplantation outcomes across the region’s acute care hospitals. Ms. O’Shaughnessy joined Gift of Life in 1996. Since leading the Hospital Services team, she has grown it from four team members to more than twenty. Ms. O’Shaughnessy has served the national and international communities in a number of capacities, including chairing the AOPO Hospital Development Council, serving on the AOPO Annual Meeting Planning Committee, serving as faculty for Gift of Life Institute, and being a leadership coach for the Wharton/Fox ‘Art and Science of Leadership Program.
Ms. O’Shaughnessy’s specific areas of expertise include strategic planning, stakeholder relations, training and development, and process improvement. In 2021, Ms. O’Shaughnessy was the project lead for the UNOS DCD Collaborative, an initiative aimed at increasing DCD donations by 25%. Gift of Life more than doubled the number of DCD donors in 2021, far surpassing the national goal. In 2022, she will begin serving as project lead for the CMS/HRSA ‘Kidney Collaborative,’ a five-year initiative aimed at dramatically increasing the number of kidney donors and reducing the number of kidneys that are not utilized for transplantation.
