Henry Baum began their work experience as a Product Development Engineer at GTE Communication Systems in 1974, where they performed various design tasks for telecommunication systems. From 1983 to 1988, they served as the MDA Systems Manager, managing a 40-user mechanical design environment.

In 1988, Henry moved to Siemens Transmission Systems as a Senior Product Design Engineer, where they implemented MDA systems into mechanical packaging disciplines and designed electronic enclosures. Henry then worked at Siemens Stromberg-Carlson from 1990 to 1993 as a Senior Product Design Engineer, designing electronic chassis and interface panels for packet switching and optical transmission systems.

From 1995 to 1999, Henry served as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Ericsson Fiber Access, designing common platform packaging for optical switching systems. Henry then became an Engineering Manager at AMP Global Opto-Electronics in 1998, managing program development and designing packaging for optical fiber sub-systems.

In 1999, Henry joined Harmonic, Inc. as a Senior Manager of Mechanical Engineering, where they were responsible for all aspects of mechanical product development and managed a team of engineers. Henry then worked at JDSU from 2006 to 2015 as a Lead Mechanical Engineer, responsible for the development of fiber-optic transponders.

Lastly, Henry retired in 2019 and became President of the Pacific Locomotive Association (PLA), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Western Railroading Traditions. Henry also volunteered at the Niles Canyon Railway.

Henry Baum began their education in 1969 at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. Henry pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering and completed their studies in 1973. Following this, from 1973 to 1974, they attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois, focusing on Electronic Engineering Technology.
