Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington seeks a creative and customer-focused leader who shares our vision of helping Girl Scouts change the world as the Director of Retail Operations. We are looking for someone with a wide range of retail experience, including sales, marketing, staff management, budgeting, product design, product sourcing, etc.
What You’ll Do
As the Director of Retail Operations, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the coordinated operation of all retail functions and locations in the council, including headquarters, satellite locations, and mobile retail. Working with the CFO, you will establish sales objectives and develop and implement annual sales, expense, and profit plans. You’ll also develop annual marketing plans to promote and stimulate the sale of Girl Scout merchandise while meeting the needs of girls, adult members, employed staff, and visitors. In this role, you’ll work collaboratively with other departments to support their efforts in the recruitment and retention of members and the provision of program. You’ll also manage the staff and activities of the retail function and ensure that the day-to-day operations proceed efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities
Retail department management of staff and day-to-day operations, including staff selection, training, development, and performance management.
Strategic planning and goal setting for the department, in alignment with the council strategic plan and goals, and in partnership with the CFO/VP of Business Services. Ensure that goals, deadlines, and performance standards are met.
Work collaboratively with the CFO to develop a budget that includes revenue and expenses to support the business and program objectives of the council and that meets the council membership’s needs. Manage the budget throughout the year.
Formulate council-wide pricing policies on merchandise according to the planned profitability of retail operations.
Ensure coordination with all non-merchandising functions, including accounting, marketing, membership, program, communications, and business operations, to obtain optimum operational efficiency and minimize costs.
Develop the annual marketing plan to support sales objectives and implement business-building best practices.
Design and source Council’s Own Merchandise and select other merchandise for the council shops.
Review and analyze sales to manage inventory turn.
Develop store hours of operations schedule and staffing plans for all retail outlets that provide shopping convenience and outstanding customer service in keeping with council objectives and budget.
Manage inventory control system. Conduct periodic and annual inventories and maintain accurate inventory controls to meet the seasonal and special needs of the council’s customers.
Review policies and procedures for retail operations and ensure that they are current.
Visit retail shop locations regularly to support store staff, provide coaching and feedback, and ensure stores meet standards.
Develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with vendors and suppliers.
Occasionally assist retail staff by covering the store to support special event attendance, staff absences, and high volume.
