Dr. Obed Kabanda has extensive work experience in the field of philanthropy, governance, and international development. Dr. Obed has held various leadership roles in different organizations. From 2021 to present, they have been working at the Global Fund for Women, where they have served as the Senior Director of Government Donors & Foundation Partnerships and the Global Innovations & Accountability Lead. In this role, they have been responsible for strengthening government and bilateral grants management, leading strategic government and multilateral partnerships, and supporting gender justice work with flexible funding. Prior to that, from 2018 to 2021, Dr. Kabanda worked as the Acting Chief of Party at the International Fund for Grassroots Organizations (IFGO), where they designed and structured the fund and supported strategic partnerships with grassroots organizations globally. Dr. Obed also worked as the Senior Business & Strategic Partnerships Development Lead at the African Community Centre for Social Sustainability from 2019 to 2021. Dr. Kabanda's experience also includes serving as the Executive Director of Action for Community Development (ACODEV) in Africa, where they led the organization's growth from working in 3 districts to 50 in Uganda and expanding to other countries. Dr. Obed has also worked as a Senior Lecturer at Uganda Christian University, where they provided instruction in leadership and governance in health. Additionally, Dr. Kabanda has worked as a strategic advisor, leadership development consultant, and evaluation consultant in various short-term assignments. Overall, their work experience demonstrates their expertise in philanthropy, partnerships, leadership, and international development.
Dr. Obed Kabanda's education history begins in 2004 when they attended Uganda Christian University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Community Development and Leadership. Dr. Obed continued their education at the same university from 2008 to 2010, earning a Master's Degree in Public Health Leadership. In 2016, Dr. Kabanda also attended iLEAP, a Leadership Institute in Seattle, Washington State, where they received a Global Leadership Fellowship Certificate in Global Leadership, Collaboration, and Social Change.
In 2018, they participated in the Executive Nonprofit Leadership Program (EPNL) at Stanford University Graduate Business School. The following year, they enrolled in Seattle University to pursue their Doctorate in Organizational Learning and Leadership, which they successfully completed in June 2021.
In addition to their formal education, Dr. Kabanda has obtained various certifications.
