Zakia Jarrett

Zakia Jarrett has a diverse work experience in the education field. Zakia started their career in 2002 as a 3rd-grade teacher and was a Corps Member for Teach For America. Zakia then taught 3rd grade at Edna M Carrillo Elementary School in 2002-2003. From 2003 to 2005, Zakia worked as a Middle School Reading Teacher at Boston Renaissance Charter Public School. Zakia then joined Neighborhood House Charter School as a Middle School ELA & Science Teacher from 2005 to 2013. Zakia worked at Milton Public Schools as a 7th-grade English Teacher from 2013 to 2015, and then became a 7th and 8th-grade English Teacher at District of Columbia Public Schools from 2015 to 2017. In 2017, they returned to Milton Public Schools as a Middle School English Teacher and eventually became the Interim Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in July 2023. Between 2009 and 2021, Zakia also worked as a Sensitivity Editor. Currently, they are an Educational Consultant at Educating Educators, focusing on helping K-8 educators adopt an intersectional approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Zakia Jarrett completed their Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Middle School Humanities from Lesley University between 2011 and 2013. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Spanish from Lafayette College, which they attended from 1998 to 2002. Zakia also attended Milton Academy from 1995 to 1998, but their degree and field of study from that institution are unknown.
