MacHiel Visser

Machiel Visser is a statistical programmer currently employed at Galapagos since September 2020, having previously held the role of associate statistical programmer. Visser contributed as a board member for the Young Statisticians of the Netherlands at VVSOR from May 2016 to September 2021, focusing on fostering the careers of early-career statisticians. Academic experience includes serving as a teaching assistant in statistics and mathematics at Universiteit Leiden from February 2013 to January 2020, as well as involvement in the education committee for the Statistical Science master's program. Additional professional experience comprises roles as a data scientist at Inspectie SZW and various internships in biogeography, terrestrial zoology, and botany. Visser holds two master's degrees from Leiden University in Statistical Science and Biology, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Skills include R, Python, SQL, text mining, and various statistical methodologies.
